Spanish police arrested four "narcotics" and a guard who were preparing cocaine in a secret laboratory.

The Spanish National Police reported on Sunday that they dismantled a cocaine processing laboratory in Recas, Toledo.

Five people including four "chefs" were arrested in the raid. During the raid, the authorities also seized 50 kilograms (approximately 110 pounds) of powdered cocaine.

According to the police, two of the arrested persons were said to have travelled to Spain from Colombia to use their expertise to manufacture the drug because of the lack of local understanding of the task.

In addition to cocaine, the police also confiscated 3,000 liters (660 gallons) of chemicals used to process drugs.

According to expert estimates, the laboratory has the capacity to produce approximately 150 kilograms (approximately 330 pounds) of cocaine per month.

The bankruptcy was the culmination of an investigation that began earlier this year, when the police first learned of a secret drug processing laboratory in southern Madrid.

The investigation found that the laboratory was used by a drug dealer network to handle unprocessed drug shipments, which would enter Spain through the Port of Valencia, hidden in containers.

Investigators traced the laboratory to a four-building farm in Rekas, where there were several watchmen who were responsible for detecting any possible police presence.

The raid was carried out by a special operations team of the police force and saw four Colombian "chefs" arrested along with a Spanish man on guard. The authorities did not release the names of these people, nor did they release the details of the specific allegations they faced.

In the building that was raided, the organization set up a secret laboratory and set up separate bedrooms for the workers.

Various tools were found in the secret laboratory, including cutting equipment and utensils, such as a large hydraulic press used to squeeze drugs.

Europol reported in September that in recent years, the Netherlands and Belgium have replaced Spain as the main gateways for cocaine to enter Europe. Nevertheless, Spain is still an important entry point for cocaine to enter the African continent, and the drug is still the second most widely used drug after cannabis in Western and Central Europe.

The criminal organization behind most cocaine smuggling is believed to be from Colombia, which is the world’s largest cocaine producer.
